The Nuclear Maintenance Technology Center was established in April 1997 to provide maintenance and engineering services for key facilities of nuclear power plants in Korea.
Since then, through the introduction and localization of specialized technologies and equipment, the Center has achieved self-reliance in inspection, diagnosis, and maintenance services for reactor systems, nuclear fuel facility systems, steam generators, pre-service and in-service inspection, reactor coolant pumps and motors, and major system valves, which had previously depended on foreign technologies.
Today, with Korea’s only comprehensive, specialized maintenance system for nuclear power plants, the Center contributes greatly to the stable operation of the country’s nuclear fleet and has built a springboard for taking nuclear maintenance technology overseas.
It is also actively securing the full range of technologies needed as plants age — facility upgrades and replacement, inspection and maintenance of reactor internals, diagnostics of electrical and control equipment, quality verification of nuclear components, and the eventual decommissioning of plants.
Through these efforts, the Center does its utmost to support the stable operation of Korea’s nuclear power industry.

The Center carries out comprehensive engineering for the various valves installed in nuclear power plants and industrial plants — including motor-operated valves, air-operated valves, and check valves. Backed by top-tier engineers and state-of-the-art equipment, its Valve Diagnostic Test (VDT) Team delivers best-in-class valve maintenance through design-basis analysis, diagnostic testing, and evaluation across a wide range of valve types.
Through this work, the Center continues to lead the diagnosis and evaluation of valves at nuclear power plants and industrial plants.
Drawing on extensive experience and advanced robotic equipment, the Center inspects and maintains the tubing of steam generators — one of a nuclear plant’s most critical components — and of various heat exchangers, performing eddy current testing and remote visual inspection to secure the safety and integrity of the steam generators.
It also provides high-quality maintenance in areas such as sleeving, plugging, and tube extraction for tube repair and analysis.
For steam generators — one of a nuclear plant’s key components — the Center performs the full range of secondary-side maintenance, including lancing, foreign object search and retrieval (FOSAR), and chemical cleaning.
It also conducts visual inspections of a wide range of nuclear plant equipment.
By continually developing specialized techniques and systematizing its procedures, the Center is committed to delivering the highest-quality service to its customers.
The Center specializes in maintenance of the reactor coolant pump (RCP), a major rotating component of the primary system in nuclear power plants.
Because the RCP is a key part of the reactor coolant system, the RCP Team concentrates on strengthening preventive inspection and developing maintenance techniques for pumps, motors, and seal assemblies.

The Center performs precision diagnosis and maintenance of reactors and nuclear fuel — core facilities of a nuclear power plant — and develops the various specialized equipment this requires.
By developing preventive-maintenance technology for dissimilar-metal welds in nuclear plants, it concentrates on advancing maintenance techniques in specialized welding and facility improvement.
Through pre-service and in-service inspection, the Center verifies the safety of nuclear plant equipment, piping, and structures using non-destructive evaluation (NDE) and remote-robotic inspection, thereby supporting the safe operation of nuclear power plants; it also draws on its deep technical know-how and field experience to develop new technologies.
In addition, it performs eddy current testing (ECT) on steam generators, BOP heat exchangers, reactor in-core thimble tubes, and reactor head penetration tubes.
By detecting and addressing defects early, the Center helps maintain equipment integrity and also carries out a range of engineering work based on the inspection results.
The Center develops technologies for the electrical and control equipment of nuclear power plants, carries out research projects, and provides engineering support for routine maintenance. In particular, through Commercial Grade Item Dedication (CGID), it helps improve the reliability of nuclear power plants.
It also supports the safe operation of nuclear generating facilities by performing precision diagnostics of electronic cards and of electrical and control equipment.
To achieve the safe decommissioning and restoration of nuclear plants, the Center is accelerating the development of the necessary decontamination, dismantling, and waste-treatment and -management technologies. Building on the decontamination and dismantling expertise gained through operation and maintenance, it focuses on establishing a technology base that can be applied reliably when plants are decommissioned.
