Routine Maintenance

Leveraging our accumulated expertise, KEPCO KPS ensures the stable operation and optimal performance of power generation facilities

  1. 01

    Preventive Maintenance

Through regular patrol inspections, KEPCO KPS routinely verifies that the operating condition and performance of equipment stay within design limits, preventing breakdowns in advance by swiftly restoring any anomaly the moment it is detected. By performing in-service maintenance according to annual plans, it keeps equipment in optimal operating condition and helps prevent unplanned power plant shutdowns.

  2. 02

    Predictive Maintenance

Predictive maintenance is an advanced form of preventive maintenance: it gathers operating-variable data — such as vibration, noise, temperature, pressure, and lubricating oil — to diagnose the condition and performance of equipment, forecast when a failure is likely to occur, and intervene before it does, thereby averting more serious accidents. By preventing sudden shutdowns and extending operating time, it also allows facilities to be used more efficiently.
To put predictive maintenance into practical use, KEPCO KPS is committed to training specialists in this field and developing predictive-diagnostic maintenance technologies that harness a range of advanced equipment.

  3. 03

    Corrective Maintenance

When equipment fails unexpectedly during power plant operation, KEPCO KPS responds quickly in accordance with systematic maintenance procedures.

Planned Outage Services

In accordance with power plants’ mid- and long-term maintenance plans, applicable laws, and technical specifications, KEPCO KPS disassembles, inspects, and tests a wide range of equipment and facilities while the generation units are shut down. Drawing on its accumulated maintenance expertise, field-specific specialists, and tools and equipment, it establishes systematic advance-preparation plans and spares no effort to deliver high-quality maintenance services. Through planned outage services, KEPCO KPS reduces in-service equipment failures and improves facility utilization, while optimizing outage duration to meet client needs — making a significant contribution to lowering power plant operating costs.

Commissioning Services

During the commissioning phase — the final stage of power plant construction — KEPCO KPS takes part in commissioning maintenance to help secure the integrity of facilities for commercial operation.
To keep newly installed equipment in sound condition until commercial operation begins, it carries out preventive inspections, supports testing of various systems and components, and performs emergency restoration of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation & control equipment as issues arise during commissioning. It also prepares for commercial operation by developing maintenance procedures and systematically managing early commissioning data, such as initial vibration measurements.

Instrument & Control System Services

KEPCO KPS maintains field control equipment, including the turbine, boiler, and flue-gas desulfurization controls of hydro and thermal plants and the primary and secondary control systems of nuclear plants. It also services the digital control equipment introduced to power plants from the 1990s onward, including distributed control systems (DCS) such as INFI-90, WDPF-II, Ovation, and ICMS. To this end, KEPCO KPS has secured a number of precision inspection units for electronic control cards (Polar-780 & FT-100S, QT-200) and performs card diagnostics as well, contributing to the stable operation of power generation facilities.

Maintenance of Private Power Systems

Drawing on the know-how gained from power facility maintenance, technologies adopted and refined from leading manufacturers, and high-level maintenance techniques it has independently developed and applied in the field, KEPCO KPS delivers high-quality services to its customers. It performs routine maintenance, planned outage services, and repair and refurbishment works for independent power producers (IPPs), industrial captive power facilities, and district- and community-heating energy suppliers. It also provides specialized maintenance services that draw on dedicated technologies such as power electronics, vibration diagnostics, performance testing, life assessment, and insulation diagnostics of electrical equipment. In addition, KEPCO KPS carries out commissioning and maintenance for newly built independent power plants in Korea and takes an active part in specialized construction work such as equipment replacement and performance improvement.

Life Extension & Performance Improvement

  1. 01

    Life Extension

The average service life of power generation facilities is about 30 years. Through life assessment, performance diagnostics, and rehabilitation & retrofit (R&R) projects that replace and upgrade major equipment, however, this service life can be extended by more than 10 years on average.

  2. 02

    Power Uprate

Output losses caused by facility aging can be offset through rehabilitation & retrofit (R&R) projects, which maximize capacity gains and raise output by more than 5–10%.

  3. 03

    Efficiency Improvement

Power generation facilities undergo a sharp drop in generating efficiency after about 20 years of operation. Through rehabilitation & retrofit (R&R) projects based on optimized concept design, KEPCO KPS improves their efficiency by more than 2–5%.

  4. 04

    Reliability Improvement

For aging facilities nearing the end of their design life, KEPCO KPS works to secure reliability and integrity through rehabilitation & retrofit (R&R) projects, doing its utmost to ensure a stable power supply and reduce generation costs.
