Nuclear Power Maintenance
Engineering Center

  • The Nuclear Power Maintenance Engineering Center is responsible for maintenance and engineering of key facilities of nuclear power plants. The Center has displayed excellence in plugging and sleeving of steam generator heat pipes with multipurpose robots, foreign object search and retrieval (FOSAR) of the secondary sides of steam generators using remote inspection equipment, complete disassembly and examination of reactor coolant pump internals, seal refurbishment, and reactor vessel head penetration (RVHP) inspections. By doing so, we not only accomplished technological self-reliance in regards to nuclear power facility maintenance, but also laid out a foundation for exporting our technology by developing and applying inspection equipments for key components of the Korean-made Advanced Power Reactor (APR 1400).

Safety Analysis of Valves

Nuclear power facilities and industrial plants are equipped with various valves from motor operated and air operated valves (MOVs and AOVs) to check valves that require comprehensive engineering for which the Valve Diagnosis Team (VDT) is responsible. With its top-notch technicians and up-to-date equipment, the VDT provides the best of valve maintenance and management services by analyzing design standards, performing diagnostic tests and conducting evaluations. By doing so, we are taking the lead in the field of nuclear facility and industrial plant diagnosis and evaluation.

Primary Sides of Steam Generators

Steam generators are one of the most important of the variety of machinery that constitute a nuclear power plant. By building on our diverse experience and utilizing cutting-edge robot technology we offer high-quality maintenance services for steam generators and various heat exchanger tubes. To ensure the safety and integrity of steam generators, we simultaneously conduct eddy current testing and remote visual inspection. In addition, we perform sleeving, plugging and tube withdrawal for the refurbishment and analysis of heat exchanger tubes.

Secondary Sides of Steam Generators

We provide overall maintenance services concerning the secondary
sides of steam generators such as lancing, foreign object search
and retrieval (FOSAR) and chemical cleaning. We also perform
visual inspections on various equipments of nuclear power plants
and put continued effort in developing relevant technology and
systematic procedures, thus promising our clients the best of
services.

Reactor Coolant Pump

We offer specialized maintenance services regarding the reactor coolant pump
(RCP), an important rotating machine in the primary system of a nuclear
power plant. In particular, the RCP team focuses on introducing stricter
examinations concerning pumps, motors and sealing devices for preventive
purposes, and on developing maintenance technology.

Reactor/Nuclear Fuel

In regards to reactors - a key element of a nuclear power facility - and nuclear fuel, we not only conduct precise diagnosis and maintenance, but also develop various relevant special equipment. We especially place emphasis on developing maintenance technology for the fields of welding and facility improvement by coming up with preventive maintenance technology for dissimilar metal welds of reactors.

Pre-/In-service Inspection

Through pre-/in-service inspections, we conduct non-destructive examination of machinery, pipes and structures and utilize remote-controlled robots when performing a range of safety inspections on facilities. These endeavors ultimately contribute to the safe operations of nuclear power plants. In addition, we carry out eddy current testing (ECT) on steam generators, BOP heat exchangers, reactor in-core thimble heat pipes, and RVHPs. This allows us to maintain the integrity of the machinery by finding defects and taking the appropriate measures at an early stage. We also perform various engineering activities in response to the test results.
