Routine Maintenance

KEPCO KPS inspects operating facilities on a daily basis. Any defects found are fixed immediately during operation, hence enhancing operational reliability.

  • Preventive Maintenance
    • We make regular rounds to check whether the operational conditions and performance of facilities are within the design parameters and fix any defects found in a prompt manner. In accordance with an annual in-operation maintenance plan, we sustain optimal operation conditions, thus preventing failures or sudden shutdowns of the facilities.
  • Predictive Maintenance
    • We collect data of operational variables such as vibration, noise, temperature, pressure and lubrication to diagnose the condition and performance of a facility, predict time of mechanical failure, and take action before the failure occurs. This is an advanced maintenance method that prevents the worst possible accidents. Furthermore, it prevents sudden shutdowns, which results in extended operation time and efficient use of facilities. To commercialize predictive maintenance, KEPCO KPS is endeavoring to nurture professionals in this area. We are also developing maintenance technologies using diverse high-tech equipments.
  • Corrective Maintenance
    • We respond to unexpected failures that occur during operation in a timely manner in accordance with our systematic maintenance procedures.

Planned outage services

In accordance with the mid - and long - term maintenance plans of power plants, relevant laws and technology standards, we disassemble, examine and test various machinery and equipments when facilities are not operating. With our accumulated maintenance technology, experts from relevant fields, tools and equipments, we set up a systematic preparatory plan (30 days in advance for hydro and thermal power plants and six months in advance for nuclear
power plants) and do all we can to provide high quality maintenance services. The planned outage services of
KEPCO KPS contribute to not only increasing facility utilization by reducing failure and outage,
but also cutting down power plan management costs by optimizing construction duration
to the client’s demand.

Commissioning Services

We participate in the startup phase of a power plant, which is
the last phase of the construction process that takes place
12 months prior to completion, to ensure integrity of facilities for
commercial operation. We conduct preventive inspections to
efficiently maintain the installed machinery before commercial
operation. We also assist testing of sy tems and machinery and
perform emergency rehabilitation of machinery and electric,
instrumentation and control facilities during the startup phase. In addition, we
prepare for commercial operation by developing a maintenance manual and
methodically gathering initial information such as vibration measurements
during startup.

Instrument & Control System Services

We perform maintenance of turbines, boilers, exhaust gas desulfurization control systems of hydro and thermal power plants, and primary and secondary control systems of nuclear power plants. We also provide maintenance services for digital control systems-for instance, the Distributed Control System (DCS) INFI-90, WDPF-II Ovation and ICMS-that were introduced to power facilities in the 1990s. In this regard, we are also conducting diagnosis of electronic control cards with precision inspection equipments such as the Polar-780, FT-100S and QT-200 to ensure stable operation of the facilities.

Maintenance of Private Power Systems

We are equipped with know - how accumulated from experience of maintaining domestic facilities, technologies we have improved after adopting them from leading manufacturers, and advanced technologies we have developed on our own. On the basis of these strengths, we are able to provide customers with high - quality services. We conduct routine, planned and preventive maintenance and renovation activities for private power plants, industrial self-generators, district heating and community energy suppliers. We also provide professional maintenance services including power electronics, vibration diagnosis, performance evaluation, life assessment and insulation diagnosis of electric facilities, utilizing specialized technologies. Furthermore, we are taking part in commissioning and maintenance of new private power plants in Republic of Republic of Korea and playing active roles in specialized construction work such as facility replacement and performance improvement projects.

Life Extension & Performance Improvement

  • Life Extension
    • The average life span of power generation facilities is about 30years. However, it is possible to extend the life of the facilities by more than 10years through life assessment, performance diagnosis and Rehabilitation & Retrofit that replace and improve major facilities.
  • Power increase
    • The Power reduction caused by the aging of power generation facilities is a rehabilitation & Retrofit project that maximizes and increase power by 5 – 10% or more.
  • Efficiency improvement
    • From 20years after the facility is operated, the power generation efficiency is rapidly deteriorated. As Rehabilitation & Retrofit through optimized concept design, we have improved efficiency by 2 - 5% or more.
  • Increased reliability
    • Through Rehabilitation & Retrofit business, we are doing our best to provide stable power and reduce the cost of power generation production by securing reliability and integrity for aging power generation facilities.
